The MAD Market lets you lets you buy honey from local tribes and a tree with your groceries!

Now you can buy wild forest honey from the Aeta and Dumagat communities and help get them through the CoVid-19 crisis. The MAD Market is on online delivery service that supports local communities and farmers by sourcing from farmer’s markets working with farmers from Benguet, Davao, Rizal, Tarlac, Nueva Ecija and Bataan as well as social enterprises and SMEs. By delivering meaningful produce and products straight to people’s homes, the MAD Market also hopes to provide a means of income to vulnerable sectors.

The MAD Market was a quick pivot from social enterprise Make A Difference Travel whose sustainable tourism adventures were put on pause as well. Whereas MAD Travel connected guests to local communities and tribes through their adventures, the MAD Market connects buyers to more farms and local enterprises through fruits, vegetables, honey and home-baked goods. There’s even a ‘buy a tree’ option in the MAD Market!

Apart from the really good forest honey (seriously it tastes different!), another way to provide income to these marginalized communities is by tree purchases. At just Php 150. per tree, money from tree purchases provide income to MAD Market’s partner communities who are paid to plant these trees.

For the team, the MAD Market started as a way to support even more communities and SMEs but now, they realize that it is but one small way to start redistributing wealth and most importantly, value. The MAD Market team believes that right now we have a chance to give more value where it matters – value in our farms and farmers, value in village economies and SMEs, value in a more conscious and purposeful way of purchasing.

So come, try out some wild honey and a tree from a community in Bataan or have an amazing banana carrot cake from a local bakery you never knew about. Imagine weekly groceries can make a difference too. Stay home, stay safe and buy local.

The MAD Market is accessible through bit.ly/MADMarket and delivers within Metro Manila. For partnerships, bulk orders and other inquiries, you can reach the MAD Market through info@madtravel.org.
